The smallest detail can make all the difference in the basing of a figure or in a diorama. The detailed colour scheme can tell one story and a descriptive base can add to this. But where would you obtain that humanoid skull with horns or large dinosaur skull you so desperately need? The answer is The King of Bits on MyMiniFactory.

The King of Bits @TheKingofBits – MyMiniFactory

Bruno begun The King of Bits in 2022 and its origins lay in a resin printer and the creativity this enables.

How did The King of Bits begin?

‚The idea was born when I bought a resin printer to make my little inventions. I stumbled upon MyMiniFactory and discovered that you could print miniatures, which was another one of my hobbies for a long time. Since I already had the printer, I printed a few miniatures but noticed that they lacked small details like skulls and potions for terrains. So, I got to work and created my own. I loved seeing what I had designed come to life, and I got hooked.‘

When viewing the items that Bruno has for sale it is the detail that strikes you. Bruno comes from a design background and this is clear to see in the quality of his work. Everything looks real, even if it could not possibly exist or at least you hope it does not in the case of the Skull with horns group!

How do you go about designing such intricate pieces?

‚I design them using Blender because it’s an incredibly complete program where you can do everything, from modelling to rendering. I choose the themes based on my inspiration. I have a very long list of bits I’ve always wanted to have, and I pick the ones I think people will want or need. I like the idea of continuously updating and expanding the groups of bits, adding more over time.‘

From Dino’s to Mushrooms

It is clear that the needs of the modeller are at the forefront of Bruno’s work and influence his designs and next projects. From the large dinosaur to the small mushrooms, each are designed to enhance the visual experience when viewing a mini.

The mushrooms can be depicted in various ways, from normal growth in a forest glade to a odd outcrop in an alien landscape.

The dinosaur skulls would not look out of place in a model in a natural history museum. I really need to find some reason to use a Tyrannous Rex skull in my modelling!

It is the animal skulls that are Bruno’s favourite design so far and the painted, based, examples on The King of Bits pages show how much they can add to a scene. A painted yellow base suddenly becomes a parched landscape full of death.

The human skeletons that Bruno has designed would add greatly to any dungeon scene or grim dark fantasy war scenario. I particularity like the detail of the skull wounds.

What does the Future Hold for The King of Bits?

‚My future plans are to set up a small studio and sell my bits physically. For now, it’s just me, and I don’t have enough time to do everything I’d like to do.‘

I do hope that Bruno succeeds in his plans and I look forward to seeing more from this innovative designer who obviously cares about his craft. I will leave the last word to Bruno,

‚I would love to dedicate myself to it full-time because I enjoy seeing people use my little bits and finding them in social media posts.‘
