Checkpoint Miniatures design ethos is a simple one as Mark from Checkpoint says we ‚try to make figures which can be picked up and played in any game you have on hand.‘

Their aim is to produce miniatures for gamers, figures painters and collectors. And this they certainly achieve.

The 28mm range are spin cast in white metal and large creatures cast in resin. The costs are very reasonable, a 6mm figure would currently cost 50p.

As someone who has studied and written on the First World War, I admired the care and attention that is given to their historical First World War series and these are cast in the larger 32mm size making those belts slightly easier to paint.

I also particularly like they Weird War series, which takes the First World War as its starting point regarding design. The ‚Tommies‚ who are halflings are also wonderfully details in character and certainly would be a joy to paint.

Checkpoint has a huge variety of ranges, beside Weird War they also do miniatures under the themes of Alien Federation, Robots, Croms Anvil, which are 15mm fantasy (Crom’s Anvil – 15mm Miniatures Archives – CheckPoint Miniatures) and they also produce 6mm figures including some nicely detailed character figures a rarity at this scale.

This 28mm trio is also worth pointing out in regards to detail and characterisation.

Night Terrors is a range that contains some 176 models. The Zombies here are a particularly Resident Evil style with their gore, mutations and nudity.

Mark explained the design process that goes into the Lovercraft inspired Deep Ones range

Deep Ones – 28mm Miniatures Archives – CheckPoint Miniatures

‚Most of our figures are based on the Gothic horror and Cthulhu Mythos themes. The deep ones being an example of some Cthulhu type monsters but we do try to put our own spin on things. Our deep ones are a bit smaller and I think a bit more fish like than most other versions. In general I will brief a sculptor with a rough guide to what I want doing, how many figures & poses but I do try to give them as much free reign as possible. After all their talented chaps and never let me down.‘

Checkpoint Miniatures cover a wide variety of themes and miniatures, I will be covering more of these in due course. Do go check them out.
